I guess this is the place where we talk more about the site and its purpose…

As the primary author of this blog, I speak mostly from the perspective of a database developer. There have been times I have been forced into the realm of what DBA’s do, but what I may be inspired to write as a result is more out of awe and mutual respect for the trade that is handled by Database Administrators.

Many of the articles to follow on this blog are personal bookmarks I have made to remind myself of areas that pique my curiosity and also the well-worn paths of database development and programming that I want to capture and share with the online community at large.

I have been working in the RDBMS field since the late 90′s beginning with fledgling releases of Oracle 7, 8i, 9i, 10g through most currently 11g R2. I love Oracle’s database product, though I have been also known to dabble with its competitors: SQL Server, Sybase and MySQL to name a few.

Appreciating the nuances between each of the flavors of RDBMS and their accompanying procedural and SQL constructs helps me focus on the overall bigger picture of just where this whole “relational db” thing is going into the future. Everyday I roll my sleeves to get down to the code level, I am simply fascinated with what I see.

For those of you reading this in the far future, “may you live in interesting times,”… I know I am!
